Things I Amplify from the web

Facebook’s UX is just amazing. Their vision for the web with their opengraph API is now clearer to me.

I posted an article's link using SU from Wired Mag. on my FB wall. That very post is now linked directly to Wired and all the comments they got when they originally posted the link on FB. What's interesting is that I didn't share the link from the original post within FB but externally.

What this means is that now all content shared by a person on FaceBook will be searched for elsewhere in their system and connected to the person's original post.

This is definitely the implementation of OpenGraph and this could make FaceBook a network separate from the Internet itself, maybe even more influential. This could be huge.

If you really want to share, you shouldn’t be asking for compensation. If you want to sell, then just sell.

A Short Story On How Not To Share Things

Imagine I bake a delicious batch of cookies. They’re still warm and mushy. I put them into a bowl while they’re nice and warm and walk them into the living room where a group of my friends are lounging around. I sit down and they get a whiff of my fresh batch of cookies.

I’m proud of my cookies and I look forward to sharing them and hopefully getting a few compliments in return. I put the bowl forward for all to share and enjoy. As soon as someone reaches for one, I grab their hand by the wrist.

“$0.75…please.”

That’s not nice. In fact, it’s rude. This is why I think paywalls will fail on the Web. They’re not nice and they’re rude.

Google Breaks Into the Content Business in a spectacular Way

#Entrepreneurship is not #blogging. Solving real world problems is what makes you an #entrepreneur.

When I see teens and young adults hopping on the blogging wagon and calling themselves entrepreneurs, they come across as ignorant to the meaning of entrepreneurship.

I just wish people would put their energy to solving a problem or filling a gap with their service rather than starting a blog. Don't get me wrong for asking to abate from starting a blog. What really one should take away is that they should not start YET ANOTHER BLOG.

There are already thousands of blogs on tech, making money online, SEO and adsense. Understand that you are much better positioned by catering to a niche that is under-served or not served at all. Do some research, find out if you can plug that hole and snap you'll be a leader in the niche.

Moreover sponsorship, affiliate sales or banner advertising are not the only sources of making money online. Look at Lynda.com, it's a great business model for internet startups. With world wide web, it is now possible to be in a direct relationship with your customers which I think is superb. It will also put you in a much better position than other players in your niche who rely on third party insights, be it analytics or tracking PR, links and stuff.

Conclusion: Starting a tech blog is not the only way to make money. Just give it a try. I know it will be difficult to break from the herd but look at Diane Keng. You don't want to be just another sheep in the heard all your life, do you?

Would Wordpress Sue The Maker Of Thesis, A Leading Wordpress Theme? – with Chris Pearson and Matt Mullenweg

Chris can't really make his mind about the thing. At one point, he is asking Matt to not try to ruin him and another he is asking him to see him for Thesis.

Clearly, Chris doesn't have an upper hand on the Thesis debate. URL:  mixergy.com

Google's thoughts on building #Wave. We will solve the problems with communication platforms whether they exist or not.

#Matt & #Wordpress vs #Chris & #Thesis: I side with Matt!

"At what point does WordPress get to be the be-all end-all about what works with it?"
- Chris Pearson
"You can do whatever you like but anything built on top of the GPL must be GPL itself. That's the crux of it."
- Matt Mullenweg

There is an intense debate brewing in the open source development community these days whose resolution could have widespread implications for the sharing and distribution of software. Matt Mullenweg, the founder of WordPress, disagrees with the way Chris Pearson, creator of a popular WordPress theme and framework, has chosen to distributed his product - a method he believes is against the rules and licenses WordPress operates under. The two seem to be unwaveringly at odds, which could mean a lawsuit is on the horizon, but what would that mean for free software distribution?

#FreedomOfSpeech is not for morons. Telling imbeciles to shut up is not an infringement of freedom of speech.

I got one question, do statements like:
"He was a murderer and a rapist but he was a human after all and he ought to be remembered for that."
make any sense?

Yeah, that's what I thought!

Raoul Moat, a man who attempted to kill his ex girlfriend, killed her new lover, and wounded a police officer before shooting himself while cornered by police. Attracting more than 38,000 fans before its creator took it offline, the group “R.I.P. Raoul Moat You Legend” is still stirring up controversy over the question of governments and lawmakers versus public morality: Should governments have a right to step in when there is an issue of public morality at hand? And does the fact that this is occurring on a social network have anything to do with it?

David Cameron has been very vocal about his disapproval of the Facebook sympathy toward Moat: “I cannot understand any wave, however small, of public sympathy for this man. It is absolutely clear that Raoul Moat was a callous murderer — full stop, end of story.” His government was supportive of a UK lawmaker’s bid to get Facebook to pull the page as it incited hatred against police, women and public figures.

Facebook released the following statement earlier today in response to the lawmaker’s request that the group be removed:

“Facebook is a place where people can express their views and discuss things in an open way as they can and do in many other places, and as such we sometimes find people discussing topics others may find distasteful. However that is not a reason in itself to stop a debate from happening.”
